 Rio Dulce, Guatemala is a place of unmatched pristine natural beauty in a protected biosphere reserve located in Eastern Guatemala.
When the Spanish colonized Central America, Antigua, Guatemala was the capital of all of Central America. Communication, travel, and shipping between Antigua Guatemala and Spain came via the Rio Dulce, inland to Mariscos, and then overland to the capital. Prior to that, the Rio Dulce was important to the Mayan civilization. The Rio Dulce is steeped in history.
Today the Rio Dulce is a protected ecological wonderland offering many recreational activities for Guatemalans and travelers ranging from watersports to bird-watching and horseback riding. Rio Dulce is very popular for cruisers and over a dozen marinas host over 1,000 sailboats from all over the world.
