Escuintla, Guatemala
The Department of Esquintla is located on the Pacific Coast, southwest of Guatemala City, and consists of a wide variety of terrain ranging from mountains and cloud forest to tropical lowlands. Active volcanos Pacaya and Fuego are located here and Guatemala's Pacific seaports at Puerto San Jose and Puerto Quetzal.
Escuintla is home to various industries and to agriculture consisting of livestock production, coffee, and cardamom, but the main business is growing and processing sugar cane in the hot coastal lowlands.
Residents of Guatemala City sometimes view Escuintla as their playground since there are plentiful beaches and the sportfishing is great. On holidays there are huge traffic jams as city-dwellers head to Escuintla for recreation.
